My name is Glyssel (pronounced ji-sel) Lee. Muhammad Ali once said, “Champions aren’t made in gyms. Champions are made from something they have deep inside them – a desire, a dream, a vision.”
I love this quote as it defines my passion for fitness at a level that is real for all people. It takes a lot of courage to decide to change our lifestyle and get fit and healthy. It takes more courage to step into a gym. I admire all people that have the courage to be a champion, the one that has a “desire, a dream, a vision.”
I have always maintained a healthy lifestyle, but I was never an athlete, nor did I play any type of sport as a child or teen. However, when I was 35 years old, and after having my second child, I decided to run my first 5K which turned into a half marathon. Soon after, I began competing in sprint triathlons that evolved into Ironman races. I have completed over 100 races of different lengths and placed in my age group in many of those races. My biggest accomplishment was each of the three times I crossed an Ironman finish line. The words, “Glyssel, you are an Ironman,” are still etched in my memory and an accomplishment that will forever be a part of me.
Because I was never an athlete, I had to find the courage to take the first steps toward an athletic lifestyle. It has been a decade since my first 5K race. During this adventurous decade I became a personal trainer and a group fitness instructor. This journey has led me to clients whom I consider friends. Their success, their drive, courage and determination is a testament to the drive we all have within us. It is my absolute pleasure to work with others that want to be fit and healthy and to motivate people to find their inner strength. Fitness goals are unique and personal to all of us, but they all have one thing in common: determination! I am thrilled to be part of CKO and an environment that is built on a caring motivation to ignite fitness passion and determination in others.
I have a Bachelor and a Master of Science. My background is in education. I have completed many hours of fitness training through AFAA and PFIT. For several years I taught indoor cycling classes, among others. Kickboxing has always been a dream and what’s best is that now I have the opportunity to share and build my dream with others.
My passion for fitness began at my early pre-teen years ignited by the result of an accident I was involved in that caused my arm to get broken in a couple of place. The damage to my arm was so severe that surgery was required, and such surgery resulted in loss of mobility and strength in my arm. But such traumatic experience made me more determined, even borderline obsessed, with recovering the mobility and strength in my arm. So I got involved in a variety of fitness programs to rebuild the functionality of my damaged arm. Some of these fitness programs included, but were not limited to, swimming, boxing, weight lifting, and the like. Eventually, such determination led the Sacred Heart University in Puerto Rico to award me fitness grants and scholarships in the Judo martial arts as well as Olympic-centric weight lifting.
During the 4 years of college, working towards a bachelor’s degree in fitness education, I competed and earned 9 Bronze Medals, worked as a personal trainer as well as group instructor for a variety of fitness programs such as spinning, aerobic kickboxing, boot camp, and TRX. After graduation, I moved from Puerto Rico to Texas working for The Varnett Public School as a PE teacher while I continued to train in weight lifting. I also had the privilege of competing in the Strength and Iron Cat Open, earning Gold Medals in many of such competitions.
I want to conclude my short biography with my favorite saying, to succeed and achieve “Desire is the key to motivation, but it’s determination and commitment to an unrelenting pursuit of your goal – a commitment to excellence – that will enable you to attain the success you seek.” – Mario Andretti
I have had a passion for sports for as long as I can remember and have as a result been active in a variety sports. My passion for sports has driven me to get involved in a variety of sports disciplines throughout high school, and as a result, acquired valuable knowledge and understanding of what it takes to physically and mentally succeed in leading a healthy lifestyle. Once I graduated from high school, I focused on strength training by lifting weights and fine tuning my diet by incorporating the proper nutrition to maintain a healthy and fit lifestyle. As my passion for physical and mental fitness grew, I earned my National Exercise and Sports Association (NESTA) Certified Personal Training certificate and began working as a fitness instructor to help others attain their fitness goals. I recently earned BS in Fitness and Human Performance degree, aim to earn a Physical Therapy degree, and plan to continue to grow my role as a fitness CKO Kickboxing instructor so I can help others achieve their fitness goals.
I find the fitness CKO Kickboxing discipline to encompass many of the valuable elements that contribute to one achieving a healthy lifestyle. As a result, CKO Kickboxing has become a discipline I am passionate about doing and have committed to sharing with others. In all my years of experience in the sports and the health industries, I’ve never experienced such a positive and productive environment where so many individuals maintain a devoted passion about their fitness goals, where everyone is so eager to help others, where all possess a common goal to improve their lives as well as the lives of others. When you join CKO Kickboxing in League City, Texas, you could walk in a class after having one of the toughest days you’ve had in a while but by the time you leave, you would have shed the stress, gained physical, mental, and emotional satisfaction, have a clear mind, and definitely an awesome smile on your face!
I’ve played sports since I was in middle school and have since been involved in different sports, particularly club volleyball. However, it was fitness kickboxing that really captured my passion when I first took a class as I instantly fell in love with its fitness philosophy and the overall value I saw it brings to participants. So, I started visiting several of the kickboxing studios in the area to firsthand experience their approach to fitness kickboxing workouts and felt that all studios but one, the CKO Kickboxing studio in League City, were lacking in at least one of the essential fitness elements that bring an all-around fullness to participants aiming to reach their full fitness potential. By far, the CKO approach to fitness, its well-rounded fitness philosophy, and the overall value that our own CKO Kickboxing studio in League city offers participants topped them all. So, it goes without saying, I joined them, first as a member, and then as I fell deeper in love with the whole CKO experience, begin to work out harder, and train even harder, to become one the trainers as I wanted to help members in achieve their fitness goals. It is in my core belief that for me to attain higher and higher fitness levels for myself, it can only be achieved by actively helping others around me better themselves. My unwavering passion today is to help our CKO members become stronger, leaner, nimbler, healthier, and more toned version of themselves….and I thrive doing exactly that.
Our CKO Kickboxing studio in League City is indeed special in every way; every one of the CKO FitFam, staff and members alike, are so inspiring and uplifting. If you ever feel down or just need that extra push, simply look to the left or right of you while in the studio and there will be someone there eager to help you and support you. CKO Kickboxing studio is my home away from home.

I have a love for the human body and its amazing abilities. I have been an athlete since middle school, making movement a lifelong passion. I have been a long-time boxing and mixed martial arts fan. Four years ago, at the age of 39, I walked into a boxing gym and started training with a professional boxing coach and quickly fell in love with the sport as more than a spectator, still training and sparring regularly. I also have training in Muay Thai kickboxing. For me, seeing the value in martial arts and how kickboxing can translate to fun, fitness and results was quickly apparent! When I walked into the doors at CKO Kickboxing and took Marvin’s class I quickly felt the energy and that this place felt like a family.
I am a National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) Certified Personal Trainer and hold two certifications in TRX Suspension training, including Sports Medicine. My clients have included stay at home moms to marathon runners and professional MMA fighters. I attend fitness conferences around the country regularly to keep my skills up to date. Functional movement and making fitness fun for everyone are my top priorities. I believe we can all find something we enjoy. One of my greatest joys is motivating people, feeding into them, and seeing them doing things they may have thought they could not do, achieving their fitness goals and smiling in the process! My philosophy on fitness is anyone can make you tired, but I want to help you move beautifully. I also strongly believe a sound mind equals a sound body.
In addition, I have been a Registered Nurse for fourteen years. I am currently attending Graduate School at the University of Texas Medical Branch for my Master’s Degree in Family Nurse Practitioner. I believe in lifelong learning and growth. It’s never too late to go after a goal or a dream in your heart! I have worked with and cared for people and families of all ages from birth to the elderly. Education and health promotion is one of my passions. I have a deep understanding of how the human body works and I want to tell you, your body is amazing!
